One run was the difference at Tropicana Field as the Minnesota Northern Lights
defeated the New Britain RockCats in 12 innings 3 to 2.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Finally, Minnesota prevailed in the 12th
inning. Brett Gardner reached on an error. After another out, Brandon
Phillips got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.
Aramis Ramirez then stroked a single. Carlos Beltran stepped in and he hit a
single. Minnesota finished with 10 hits in the victory.
The victory was credited to Cristhian Martinez(2-0) who went 1 and 2/3
innings, allowing no runs. Huston Street recorded the save, his 4th. The
loss was charged to Jose Valverde(2-1) in relief. He was the victim of a
defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
Minnesota now has a record of 9-5. With this loss, New Britain has a 7-3
record of late, 8-4 overall.
