Gerrit Cole mowed down 11 Monroe batters as the California Surf defeated the
Monroe Matadors by a score of 4 to 3 at O.co Coliseum.
Cole(4-0) gave California a solid outing. He allowed 5 hits and no walks in 6
and 2/3 innings. Monroe tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Cole was helped out by Hector Rondon who recorded his 2nd save. Jacob
Degrom(2-1) suffered the loss. He gave up 4 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings and
saw his ERA jump from 3.41 to 3.89.
Gary Kertson was asked about the performance of Cole, 'He had his good stuff
out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts start
mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'
