Laur'en wins Best Junior handler!

For the second year in a row, Laur'en and Cosmo win Best Junior Handler at the Siberian Husky Club of Greater Oklahoma City Specialty show. Laur'en co-owns Zvezda's Cosmic Ray, Cosmo, with with Bruce Barnes, Kathy Rasmussen, and Kari Smith.

We give a huge THANK YOU to Judge Sheri Wright from Michigan for this wonderful win. Ms. Wright has over 20 years experience as a breeder-exhibitor of Siberian Huskies competing in conformation shows, obedience trials, weight pull events, and sled dog racing.

Looking at the photos from the event, it's clear why Laur'en won. Laur'en's connection with every dog she handles is apparent in the absolutely adoring way Cosmo looks at her. That happy, loving expression on Cosmo's face can't be faked and is the same expression you see on all of Laur'en's dogs.

July 7, 2009 newspaper article:

Rush Springs Resident, Laur'en Jordan, Junior Dog Show Handler wins again at summer shows! This time, she has a new dog - Siberian Husky, Liyaza's Zvezda Speed of Sound "Sonic," owned by Bruce & Joanne Barnes, Johanna Duwaldt Coutu, and Laur'en Jordan. Laur'en has spent the last two weekends on the road as Kari Smith's (Rainbow Showdogs) assistant traveling to the Oklahoma City and Dallas dog shows.

In Oklahoma City, Laur'en showed her families' new Windridge German Shepherd puppy "Dreamer", her Pointer "Ziggy", and her new Siberian "Sonic". In Dallas she showed just "Ziggy" and "Sonic". Dallas brought home the wins for Laur'en while she was showing "Sonic". "Sonic" went Winner's Dog/Best of Winners for 1 championship point on Saturday and on Sunday he went Winner's Dog/Best of Winners/Best of Breed over 2 champions to earn 2 championship points! Laur'en also showed him in Junior Showmanship, and this new team earned 3rd place out of a large class. She finished the day by handling him in the Working Group competition, competing against some of the top dogs in the country. While they did not earn a placement they looked awesome in the ring!

The next shows for Laur'en and her dogs won't be until August. Laur'en and "Sonic" with team up for the fall shows as it's now Laur'ens job to guide this lovely boy to his championship. She is also training several new WindRidge German Shepherd puppies and will bring them out to the show ring.

Back to Back Wins

Laur'en won back to back Best Junior Handler awards at this past weekend's 2 Siberian Husky Club of Metropolitan Dallas Specialty Shows. Laur'en handled Zvezda's Cosmic Ray "Cosmo" a 11 month old Siberian Husky that she co-owns with Kari Smith and Kathy Rasmussen (Both from Blanchard, OK) and Bruce Barnes (from Red Oak, TX). Bruce and his wife Joanne Barnes are the breeders of Cosmo.

Saturday's win was from long time Siberian Husky Breeder/Judge Mrs. Jean Fournier from Georgia . Sunday's win was from a local Texan judge Mr. Gary Newton who breeds are Afghan Hounds and Salukis. Both days there were three young handlers competing for top honors. Mrs. Fournier told Laur'en she had wonderful balance when moving her dog. Mr. Newton told all 3 juniors that he would hire them all to show his dogs, that is was "splitting hairs" on picking a winner.

These wins gave Laur'en enough 1st place wins to be qualified for the 2009 AKC/Eukanaba Invitational. To be invited to the Invitational a Junior Handler has to win five 1st place wins over competition and maintain a grade average of 3.0 or better. Laur'ens next goal is to earn another five 1st place wins to be invited to "The Garden" or what most people know as the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City .

Laur'en is back at all breed shows this coming weekend in Fort Worth , TX . Then she and Kari Smith, professional handler she is the assistant to, will head to Claremore (OK), Valley Center (KS), Grove (OK) and Topeka (KS) for more chances at wins and placements with their group of dogs.

Laur'en and Warlock take Winner's Dog and Best Opposite Sex Warlock's second time in the ring at only 6 months old!

Laur'en is starting 2009 with her brand new puppy, Follow Your Dreams of WindRidge. Dreamer is out of her pointed bitch, Stormee, and sired by Gunnar.

12 weeks old at her first Match wins her class and Group 4

At the tender age of 12 years, Laur'en brought home her first Best Junior Handler win this weekend at the Siberian Husky Club of Greater Oklahoma City Specialty Dog Show. Over 70 Siberian Huskies from around the U.S. came to compete in this show. Six Junior Handlers competed in Junior Showmanship, where the judge chooses the winner based on the Junior's expertise at showing their dogs. The Juniors came from Oklahoma , Kansas and Missouri to vie for the top honor.

We want to give a huge THANKS to Laur'en's mentor, Kari Smith, of Rainbow Show Dogs.

Only her third time in the ring, Stormee takes Winner's Bitch and Best of Winners and then Reserve the following day.

Lovingly trained and expertly handled by Laur'en, this is just the first of many wins to come.

Laur'en and Ch. Golden's Call Me Siegfried, a winning combination
A little about Laur'en

Laur'en has been showing the Pointer she co owns with Kari Smith, Ch. Golden's Call Me Siegfried (aka Ziggy), at AKC Shows for around 4 months. She has already earned her required wins in Novice Junior Showmanship to move up to the Open Junior Showmanship Level. She has also earned her first class placement at the tougher Open Level. Now she will continue to hone her skills and work on getting more consistant placings and hope to work towards fullfilling the requirements to be invited to compete at the annual AKC Invitational and even Westminster.

Laur'en is also showing dogs in the breed classes. She is now the exclusive handler for Rainbow's Craigellachie (Fletcher), a Cardigan Welsh Corgi. This pair has been working and bonding together this spring, and at the Oklahoma City Summer Classic, Laur'en helped guide Fletcher to a Major Reserve Winner's Dog. They will be a force to be reckoned with this fall. Laur'en is also helping show WindRidge German Shepherds in the breed ring, and we look forward to success in the adventure.

Laur'en is also the main assistant to Kari Smith and the Rainbow Showdog Team. Kari is an All-Breed Professional Handler and she is teaching Laur'en the ropes to the sport. We try to let Laur'en go one or two weekends a month on the road with Kari - but school is Laur'en's priority and so we work around her events and testing with school. Working with Kari, Laur'en is getting to work with multiple breeds - they normally travel with Great Danes, Golden Retreivers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Long Hair Daschunds, Pointers, Akitas, Siberian Huskies, Cardigan Welsh Corgis, Viszlas, and other lovely dogs. Laur'en has already earned the respect of Kari's clients and is starting to be able to take the dogs in the ring when needed.

We will use this webpage to highlight Laur'ens big wins or share photos of her in the ring at shows. Keep checking back to see what news we have to share about this new passion of Laur'en's.

It's been a great year!

Thank you to all our new show friends, and a very special thanks to Kari and the Rainbow Team.
